Matt Dawson, B.S., ACSM-HFS/CPT, ACE-GFI

Matt graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health, Fitness and Nutrition from San Diego State University. He is currently certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Health and Fitness Instructor (HFI) and a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). He is also certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as a Group Fitness Instructor (GFI). He has accumulated over 13,000 hours of professional personal training experience since first becoming certified through the International Fitness Professionals Association as an Advanced Personal Fitness Trainer (IFPA-APFT). He holds specialty certifications in Sports Nutrition, PNF Stretching, Plyo-metrics, and Tai-Chi. Matt’s goal is to help anyone and everyone reach a greater state of well being and enjoyment of life through healthful living. Matt can change workout routines, write nutrition plans, calculate weight loss goals, administer assessment tests, increase flexibility, improve lifting form, strengthen specific muscle groups, increase muscle mass or assist in toning.

Matt is currently a member of IDEA Health and Fitness Association and privately insured by a top-notch insurance agency. He is also currently CPR and Basic First Aid certified. Matt has participated in a variety of sports including college football and lacrosse at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.

To Whom it May Concern:

Fall 2007 my mother, Opal, was fortunate to have Matt Dawson as her student physical therapist while she was participating in the SDSU Center for Fitness for People with Disabilities.

Mom (Opal) had already been going to this program for two years and still attends.  The program does a great job of helping my mom maintain her strength, coordination and stamina.  I know that without this program my Mom would be in a convalescent home.  

During the time Matt was her physical therapist, she improved to an even faster degree than before him.  He always greeted her with a smile and said her name, he introduced himself enough that Mom learned his name and looked forward to her sessions with him.  He motivated her by making this connection.  During the time she was with Matt she improved her strength and increased the number of steps she would take when she was with me on her off days.

It's clear that Matt sees each of his clients as a unique and important person, not just someone to practice his skills on. His personality and enthusiasm make him and especially capable therapist.

I am most appreciative of the effort Matt made with my Mom and wish him every success with his future.
